Welcome to my online art portfolio:Finesse. This site is an ongoing collection of fine art both created on my own, and within the University year. This is one way I've decided to remember time spent at the University of Alberta, and to record the steps forwards. Feel free to wander through the collection of things here, and enjoy your stay.

May 4th - this years work posted

I've finally managed to get ahold of enough time to clean up and display most of the images from fall of 2007 through April 2008. Please feel free to look through and enjoy, if you so wish. I have yet to finish with the photography section - Most are film photos and have to be fixed in places due to a very poor scanner.

I finally updated the layout, several months later, and I've tried to get some of the many photos of last semesters work organized in some sort of fashion. I (hopefully) will have a little time over reading break to put some of those up.

Oct 28 - A great deal of news

Again with the new layouts - a new one will be showing up soon: Sekishu. I really didn't like how the last one turned out, though from a code perspective it wasn't that bad, to be honest. Got some features in that I wanted to have. Larger images and so on.

This time round the layout was more considered. I've been working for a while on different papers, a lot of rice papers. I wanted that to carry through, and so this design is centered around what every 2 D (and some 3 D) artworks start with - a flat surface upon which to draw. Sekishu paper is beautiful, and the layout is very clean and uncluttered. It's secondary to the content, and doesn't clash with the work on display. A lot of the work done with ink contour drawing (no wash) is about the paper, and the lines. The site is about the content and the subtle backdrop.

So thats the major news for this site. That, and, probably in December when I have some time, I'll be posting some of the things done during this semester. The way updates work, its a bunch of stuff getting uploaded all at once and then nothing for a while....that is because a lot of this is schoolwork, which is handed in, and that in turn places limitations on it.

And, lastly...one very important item. S.O.S.A! The Society of student artists at the University of Alberta has been revived, and we've been plotting lots and lots of things. One of those is a collective of artwork by the members of SOSA, housed on the web. I'd encourage you to drop by and see some of the work!

Tonight, I posted the new layout, version 2 of this site — I wanted a way to see the images here at a better size. I've added a great deal of new images from this summer, as well. In the next few days I plan on doing some code change overs, but that shouldn't be visible, really.

All the things from Artwalk are up, and I'm starting to think about fall again, and getting back to school. Should be fun, in a way, but at the same time, Ive enjoyed being a (semi) lazy bum over the summer as well. This year, I take Design 390 — Visual communications design, Drawing 340, Art 322— Printmaking, and Art 362, Figurative sculpture. I think I'll enjoy the classes. I'm also taking some computing courses and art history, but those aren't really relevant to this site.

Next project — get some of the projects that have been on the back burner for a long time going again...

May 27th

So...time has come and gone, and it has taken me quite a while to get my act together enough to post all the new stuff. I got my portfolios back around April 25th. Took a while to photograph the things I wanted to post, and to get them all ready and watermarked.

Winter term 2007, I took Drawing 140, Art 137, and Des 139. (As well, I've included the things I've done on my own - we could include relevant self initiated work in the art portfolios.) Enjoy taking the time to look through them, if you wish. I've started the page that will record the work done this summer. I have about 35 more pieces to add to that page, but so far, haven't taken any photos at all but the one.

I guess the work never ends...I'll post the news once Artwalk is over / things get updated.
